OK EVERYBODY! TIME TO GET CRACKING!
The TRAA general meeting is this Thursday, OCT. 5, at 6:00pm at the library. If you are planning to participate in the FREE Morehead City Art Show, you need to attend this meeting. I would love you to bring your one or two pieces with you to the meeting, and to fill out the paperwork on your art as to title, medium and price. Other arrangements can be made for those who absolutely can't attend this meeting. This will be the first order of business. The rest of the meeting will be a wonderful demonstration of negative space watercolor by Cheryl Young. I will also have artwork that has been hanging in the library. If you have artwork to pick up, please attend this meeting.
Hope to see you all here. Thank you from your president.

Hey there. Welcome back!
Hello all fellow TRAA Members. Hope everyone has had a wonderful Summer. We are back to having our meetings. This first one on Sept 7 at 6:00 in the Library is VERY important. Please plan on attending. Several new and exciting events are planned for the coming year and will be discussed. At the meeting there will be a gift bag for all members attending and we are having a "swap" meet too. Any art items you have and no longer need or use - bring and trade for something you would like. I would also like to ask if you are wanting to hang in the coffee shop or library, please bring two pieces to this meeting. Hope to see you there!!!! Teresa, President

Another reminder that we have reached an agreement with the Nautical Star Coffee shop to display members' artwork. We are supplying the Gallery track for hanging your work. Please submit a piece or two for consideration. This will be an ongoing event. We will change out the artwork every month. This is a great chance to show and sell your work. Owner is not asking for a commission since we are putting in the hanging system. But a 20% of sale price donation would be appreciated for the Partners in Education fund.
Please send an image of your work for display to my email address (thodock@aol.com) or text me. Size up to 20 x 24 (but may be able to work with slightly larger work). The first date to hang is the 19th. This is an ongoing event so get your images in to me.
Thank you!
Teresa

DONATING YOUR ART - A FUNDRAISER FOR TEACHERS: PIE- Partners In Education
TRAA is collecting art work you have painted or crafted that you are willing to donate. This Fundraiser is for the Teachers Scholarship that we have funded for many years. 100% of the sales will go directly to the Teacher's Scholarship.
We need your extras, the work that you've done that is in storage or under the bed, that never sold :) and needs a new home. These artworks will be sold at our TRAA Table in front of Michaele's Glass Shop on Middle Street on Art Walk Fridays before Christmas.
September 9 will be our first sale.
They can be any medium as long as they remain small: 4x4 inches to a maximum of 8x10 inches.
Please go through your art cupboards and purge your stockpile of pieces you forgot you had. Pieces can be matted and/or framed paper, framed or unframed canvases, or other small art pieces.
The pieces will be sold for a minimum of $5.00 each, and there is no maximum dollar donation.
Your donated artwork can be dropped off at the side entrance to the Craven County Library at 400 Johnson Street on August 31 from 10:00 to 12 noon. We will be there to accept your donations. You can also bring your donations to our next meeting, Wednesday, September 28 at 5:30 at the Bank of the Arts.
There is no limit to the number of donations, so let's clean out those art cupboards or add some new work! We do not want art supplies, we need your original works of art!Thank you for your continued participation in TRAA!

“There’s a pervasive myth, shared by artists and non-artists alike, that art is a product of genius, madness or serendipity. Wrong. Art is not the chance offspring of some cosmic or genetic roll of the dice. Art is mostly a product of hard work. When you look back on the results of a lifetime of artmaking, even the role that talent played is insignificant.
Living life productively, however, is very significant. One of the less-advertised truths about artmaking is that it’s more important to be productive than to be creative. If you’re productive, your creativty will take care of itself. If you are not productive—well, if you’re not productive, then how exactly is it you intend to be creative?”
This is a selection from the book ‘The View From the Studio Door’ by Ted Orland, co-author of 'Art and Fear’.
I found these two paragraphs to be helpful in pushing me forward in my art room, or the laundry room or kitchen, because I seem to be thinking more about what to paint sometimes, than actually painting. If these days have you struggling with the inspiration needed to push forward, on to the next blank page, piece of wood or material facing you, then you are not alone. Perhaps we can challenge each other or inspire each other when we meet at our next meeting in February.
April’s Member Meeting:
Bryan Hamilton joined us for an entertaining, informative and interactive presentation about the history of printmaking and how he has worked in and been involved with the medium since he was 12! Printing has been a passion of his for his entire life and he is thrilled to have recently set up a new working studio at his home.
